Breakfast at Our Bar in Washougal
Didn't know much about Our Bar before I came to Washougal for breakfast. This town with a river running through it was home to the Chinook Indians who bartered with British, Russian and Spanish fur traders in the late 1700's, as sea otter and beaver skins were hot commodities overseas. In 1805 the famous exploration team of Lewis and Clark camped here, much impressed with the lovely fertile valley on the Washington side of the Columbia River. Today Washougal is known as the gateway to the Columbia River Gorge.
At 1887 Main Street in downtown Washougal, partners Kevin and Alex opened Our Bar in 2013.
Everything is made from scratch including breads and jams. Their commitment to buying from local farms is ferocious. Ninety percent of all produce is cultivated within a fifty mile radius.
It was hard, deciding between Brioche French Toast and Huckleberry Pancakes. I picked French Toast (with a fried egg) deliciously fresh, not overly sweet, perfectly cooked and served with real maple syrup. Impressive.
I went back for the pancakes just a few days later. Equally as impressive.
Our Bar's quote, "We keep it real. We cook and serve with love. We are Main Street.
