A Heritage Trail In The City's Backyard
I like urban living for its liveliness, access to diverse foods and services, and because I'm a people person, feeding off the energy and rhythm of daily interactions.
But too much city without an escape hatch, makes me cranky. Therefore I seek out spots, antidotes to the cacophony of a densely packed population.
Jump start your morning, take a lunch break or catch the last gasp of daylight on the Lacamas Lake Heritage Trail in Camas. It's beautiful here, dawn to dusk. The moment you hit the trailhead at Goodwin Road, bird song, tall trees and wildflowers begin to soothe the overstimulated brain. Even the distant sounds of an occasional car engines or construction noise, can't break the spell of this lakeside walk in the woods.
It's a seven mile round trip hike, with plenty of opportunities to sit on a bench or admire the sweeping scenery from a bridge. I usually walk about a mile and a half in, sit a bit, and turn around. This is my antidote to civilization.
